That also means if only 175 or so delegates (including superdelegates) were to flip-flop their support from Obama to Hillary, then Hillary could steal the nomination right out from under Obama on the night of the roll-call vote, which will most likely be conducted on Wednesday night, August 27 of the DNC in Denver.

Clinton backers secure nomination roll-call vote

WASHINGTON ­ Hillary Rodham Clinton’s supporters will get to place her name in nomination at the Democratic National Convention later this month, forcing a roll call vote that would demonstrate the extent of support for the New York senator.

The campaigns of Clinton and the presumptive Democratic nominee, Barack Obama, announced the agreement in a joint statement Thursday.

“I am convinced that honoring Senator Clinton’ s historic campaign in this way will help us celebrate this defining moment in our history and bring the party together in a strong united fashion,” Obama said in the statement.

Clinton said: “With every voice heard and the (Democratic) Party strongly united, we will elect Senator Obama President of the United States and put our nation on the path to peace and prosperity once again.”

Clinton picked up about 18 million votes and nearly 1,900 delegates in her primary battle against Obama. He got more than 2,250 delegates ­ more than necessary to clinch. She conceded to the Illinois senator June 7 and threw her support behind him, but hadn’t ruled out lending her name to a nominating effort.

Details and mechanics of how the nomination will be made are being worked out, the Associated Press reported.

Aides to Obama had prepared for the possibility Clinton would be nominated. “There’s no perfect solution for anybody,” Steve Hildebrand, Obama’s deputy campaign manager, told USA TODAY this week. But he expressed confidence Democrats will pull together no matter what the outcome. “I think we will end up being just fine, roll call or no roll call.”

At a California fundraiser last month, Clinton suggested that a roll call would be “a catharsis” for her supporters. “I happen to believe that we will come out stronger if people feel their voices were heard and their views were respected,” she told a group of Democrats in Los Altos Hills.

“I think it would be excellent,” said Lorraine Hariton, who hosted the gathering.

Others are opposed. “I think it would be very divisive,” said Santa Clara County Assessor Larry Stone, who also attended the fundraiser. Stone, who said he backed Clinton in the primaries, argued that a convention tally of her support would only help the cause of the presumptive Republican nominee. “John McCain would love it,” he said.

At issue is whether a floor vote on the nomination would help heal or further open wounds left by a bruising primary campaign between two history-making candidates. Obama is the first African American to win a major party nomination for the presidency; Clinton is the first woman to have vied seriously for the same post.

To recognize Clinton’s accomplishment, convention organizers have given her a prime-time slot to address the convention in Denver on Aug. 26 ­ 88 years after the 19th Amendment took effect and gave women the right to vote.

Today, Thursday, July 31, members of Pilgrims Covenant Church will station themselves at the entrance to the “Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe” near La Crosse, Wisconsin. This week is that shrine’s “Dedication Week” with today being the most significant day. Today’s events will include the “Dedication Mass” in the Shrine Church, following hours of “confessions” from thousands of “pilgrims.” On hand today will be several hundred Roman Catholic clergy of all rank, including cardinals; Roman Catholic celebrities; and a phalanx of Roman Catholic and secular press. The dedication mass itself will be telecast live on Eternal Word Television Network and broadcast live on Relevant Radio, both Roman Catholic media. Later, Relevant Radio will also broadcast a two-hour program live from the shrine.

Estimates are that pilgrims to the Guadalupe shrine will yearly pump six to ten million dollars into the La Crosse (population 51,000) economy. Not surprisingly, the secular press, especially locally, has given the shrine very favorable coverage.

SYDNEY (Reuters) – Pope Benedict called for all religions to unite against terrorism and resolve conflicts peacefully on Friday and heard an Islamic leader urge Christians to overcome “misconceptions and prejudices” about Muslims.

“In a world threatened by sinister and indiscriminate forms of violence, the unified voice of religious people urges nations and communities to resolve conflict through peaceful means and with full regard for human dignity,” Benedict told an meeting with Muslims, Jews and members of other non-Christian faiths.

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) ­ Pope Benedict XVI said he was “deeply sorry’ for the sexual abuse of children by Australia’s Catholic clergy, delivering a strongly-worded apology Saturday that described their acts as evil and a grave betrayal of trust.

“I would like to pause to acknowledge the shame which we have all felt as a result of the sexual abuse of minors by some clergy and religious in this country,” Benedict said during an address at a Mass in Sydney.

“I am deeply sorry for the pain and suffering the victims have endured. I assure them as their pastor that I too share in their suffering,” he said.

“Those responsible for these evils must be brought to justice.”

Benedict has expressed regret before about the clergy abuse scandal that has rocked the church in recent years ­ notably during a visit to the United States in April when he also met privately with a small number of victims. But the language of Saturday’s apology was stronger than the pope’s comments in the United States.

There was no immediate word whether Benedict would meet with victims of clergy abuse during his Australia trip, which ends Monday.

Support groups for victims of church abuse in Australia, whose numbers are not known but who activists say are in the thousands, said a papal apology is not enough and demanded the church end what they say is a continuing cover-up of the scale of the problem and stop fighting compensation claims lodged in civil courts.

On Friday, Benedict told representatives of Islam and other faiths that they must unite to combat religion’s role in “sinister and indiscriminate” violence.

Without mentioning terrorism directly, the pontiff said there were those who were using religion “as a cause of division rather than a force for unity.” He was speaking in a 40-minute exchange with Australian Jewish, Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist leaders in Sydney.

“In a world threatened by sinister and indiscriminate forms of violence, the unified voice of religious people urges nations and communities to resolve conflicts through peaceful means and with full regard for human dignity,” Benedict told the leaders.

The remarks come as the Vatican tries to cool lingering anger among Muslims over a speech Benedict gave in 2006 that appeared to associate Islam with violence. Benedict quickly apologized for the link.

(AP) Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Friday called on China to release Tibetan prisoners as he met with the Dalai Lama.

After a 45-minute meeting with the Dalai Lama, McCain said the Beijing Olympic Games in August provide an opportunity for China to demonstrate it recognizes human rights. He also said the Dalai Lama is merely seeking basic rights to preserve Tibetan culture, language and religion.

“That’s why I’m so disappointed by repeated statements by Chinese officials that ascribe to the Dalai Lama views and actions divorced from what he actually represents. Such rhetoric doesn’t serve a cause of peaceful change and reconciliation,” McCain said.

“I urge the Chinese government to release Tibetan political prisoners, account for Tibetans who have, quote, ‘disappeared’ since protests in March, and engage in meaningful dialogue on genuine autonomy for Tibet,” McCain said.

The Tibetan spiritual leader was in Aspen for a symposium sponsored by The Aspen Institute think tank. McCain met with him while his rival, Democrat Barack Obama, was on high-profile trip through Europe and the Middle East.

The Dalai Lama praised McCain for his concern, but he emphasized he wasn’t endorsing McCain’s presidential bid.

The Dalai Lama is seeking support from world leaders for upcoming talks with China once the Olympics are over. He says he wants autonomy, not independence, for Tibet.

China claims Tibet has been its territory for centuries.

“His Holiness represents the profound desire of millions of Tibetans for basic dignity and human rights. His nonviolence approach and his lifelong work seeking common ground across cultural and religious divides are an inspiration to all of mankind and to millions of Americans,” McCain said as the Dalai Lama clutched McCain’s hands.

TITLE V–GENERAL PROVISIONS

SEC. 507. (a) None of the funds appropriated in this Act, and none of the funds in any trust fund to which funds are appropriated in this Act, shall be expended for any abortion.

(b) None of the funds appropriated in this Act, and none of the funds in any trust fund to which funds are appropriated in this Act, shall be expended for health benefits coverage that includes coverage of abortion.

(c) The term `health benefits coverage’ means the package of services covered by a managed care provider or organization pursuant to a contract or other arrangement.

SEC. 508. (a) The limitations established in the preceding section shall not apply to an abortion–

(1) if the pregnancy is the result of an act of rape or incest; or

(2) in the case where a woman suffers from a physical disorder, physical injury, or physical illness, including a life-endangering physical condition caused by or arising from the pregnancy itself, that would, as certified by a physician, place the woman in danger of death unless an abortion is performed.

In March of this year, John McCain traveled to Israel where he shamelessly pandered to Prime Minister Olmert, the Likudnik extremist Benjamin Netanyahu, and other Zionist Masonic overlords and groveled at their feet. Brother Kapner noted that McCain was at the private Rothschild fund-raiser in the posh London Spencer house. Kapner’s sage conclusion: “John McCain is bought by Jews via the Rothschilds!”

Kapner also reported that McCain recently was forced to apologize to the Jews for having the audacity to say in a speech he had given that, “America is a nation founded on Christian values.” Immediately, the Jewish organizations sprang into action, prompting the frightened McCain to trot out before the news cameras and retract what he had said.

The senior McCain also just happens to be the sorry traitor who stood by and let Israeli bomber aircraft decimate the U.S. Liberty Ship in 1967, killing and wounding so many of our sailors.

Nuking Iran is McCain’s Promise

John McCain and his insane, bloodlust, Zionist whack-job colleague, Pastor John Hagee, promise to use nuclear bombs to destroy Iran. Here is a man who only got into the Military Academy because his grandfather and father before him were military brass and pulled strings. Predictably, McCain finished almost dead last in his graduating class. He never accomplished one positive thing as a Naval aviator. He did, however, manage to execute a miserably incompetent, faulty landing that killed a number of carrier personnel and, later, he was shot down over North Vietnam. Not exactly a picture of success.

John McCain has never done an honest days work in the private sector his entire life. He cheated on his first wife with the much younger Cindy Hensley, then abruptly divorced his wife and married the pretty Cindy within a few weeks. Now come reliable news reports about McCain messing around having an affair with a young Washington D.C. blonde lobbyist, Vicki Eisman. A real “Family Values” character wouldn’t you say? McCain is so vile that other Senators have labeled him “President McNasty!”

McCain has threatened to reduce Social Security benefits, and he consistently voted as a Senator for higher taxes. His World War III insanity will bankrupt America and force this nation into a North American Union slave state. But then, why should John McCain care about you, me, and other middle class Americans? This heel married into the Hensley fortune­Cindy’s rich dad owned a beer distributorship and reportedly got his fortune via his unsavory ties to the Jewish Mafia.

John McCain is an unprincipled man who kisses up to the homosexuals, liberals, and Jews, lies and pretends he’s a “conservative” to win high office.
